June 12, 2018CYIB – Curious Minds works to ensure that all children and youth are well informed and meaningfully participate in decision-making that affects their lives by advocating, generating knowledge, sharing information, building partnerships and training young activists at local, national and international levels. The MEL Manager is responsible for the Monitoring, Evaluation and Learning Strategy and system; ensures strong reporting on progress and impact to partners, including through data gathering and processing, analysis and authoring of reports; and lead on MEL capacity support.
Key Responsibilities:
- Develops, updates as needed, MEL guidelines, procedures, templates, frameworks and tools to support strong reporting on progress, impact and learning
- Oversees data entry and storage
- Ensures reliability and validity of reports and carrying out regular spot and random checks on programme activities
- Oversees data capturing, analysis and quality assurance processes through guidance and capacity support
- Authors programme, project and activity reports, reflections and analysis to partners in a timely manner which focuses on progress, impact and learning.
- Collects, analyzes and verifies M&E data, for effective program results to enable improved capturing and narration of programmatic reports
- Monitors gender mainstreaming in Curious Minds’ structures, programmes and activities
- Manages monthly, quarterly, half yearly and annual evaluation processes
- Joins Management team in operational decision making
- Assesses MEL capacity needs among staff and provides feedback and support
- Participate in the Organisation’s programme meetings, reviews, planning meetings and team discussions
- Defines and implements key programme/project performance indicators as well as monitoring them throughout the programme/project
- Reviews the performance of existing management information systems to help identify modifications
- Performs regular field visits to ensure the quality of data collected by programmes and to verify the accuracy of reported data
Education
A minimum of Bachelor of Science or Bachelor of Art degree in Administration, Statistics, Research Methodologies, Development and any other related academic field. A Master of Arts or Science or Philosophy (MA or MSc or MPhil) will be an advantage.
Skills and Other Capacities
- Thorough knowledge of advanced statistics and research methods for monitoring including sampling techniques and the use of software for analysis
Strong critical thinking, assessing and analyzing skills - Ability to make strategic recommendations as part of the evaluation process
- Strong communication and team building skills,
- Ability to establish and maintain strong working relationships inside and outside an organisation.
- Advanced knowledge of ISO 9000 quality management systems and their applications
- Highly organised and with strong writing, presentation, training and facilitation skills, fluency in English, an ability to work independently and able to work in partnership with a diverse range of organisations, partners and consultants.
- Willing to learn about new approaches
- Strong ability to compile and aggregate complex data and communication progress, trends, impact and challenges in line with overall results frameworks into reader-friendly progress reports
- Strong ability to communicate complex ideas in simple writing and verbally in English
- Strong understanding of international, regional and national and community level development issues
- Strong ability to utilize a professional monitoring and evaluation software
Experience
- Experience in collecting, analyzing and disseminating/publishing data
- Previous work experience with a governmental, non-governmental organisation, social enterprise or any other field of development
