Background: Evidence available indicates high incidences of teenage pregnancies, sexual and gender based violence, child marriage and harmful practices in the Central, Upper West and Volta Regions. Often girls and women are the victims; they are usually unable to negotiate for safe sex which leads to teenage pregnancy, sexually transmitted infections, unsafe abortion and sometimes early marriages. Also, they lack the capacity to speak about issues that affect them directly. In times of decision making they are not consulted to take on their views.

Intervention: Funded by STAR-Ghana Foundation, and Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office, The Girl Power Project 4 Change seeks to build the capacities of selected young girls and women on their Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights, as well Gender-Based Violence. Primarily targeting girls and women, the project will employ activities such as radio discussions, community outreaches, colloquia, social media campaigns, outside broadcast sessions, and stakeholder engagements for the young girls and women to regularly engage on issues of SRHR and GBV.

Running for 3 years, this project will be implemented in the Central Region – KEEA District (Komenda and Ampayin), Volta Region – South Tongu District (Sogakope), and Upper West Region (district yet to be determined)

Project objective: The objective of The Girl Power Project 4 Change is to empower young people particularly girls and women to be assertive and speak out when confronted with issues of Sexual Reproductive Health and rights and to be influential agents of change by educating their peers on Sexual and Reproductive and Rights.
